What happens in a valuation?

When you booking an appointment with our lab, we will ask that you bring as much documentation that you have on your jewellery item(s) as possible. This is a vital step in the process, as the details provided within these papers can provide insight into aspects such as the piece’s origin. We will also observe the condition of your jewellery items, giving you a job receipt, and begin to work on valuing your jewellery.

This process, whilst varying on the condition and the type of item, typically consists of:

  • A clean of all of the parts that make up your items.
  • Analysis of the type of stone and/or metal used in the item.
  • Photos being taken and kept in our records for safekeeping.
  • Analysis of the quality of the materials used, including shading and colour variation.
  • Taking the physical and measured weight of your items.

At the end of the process, you will be contacted to inform you that the job is done, and that you can collect your items. On arrival, we will provide you with your value certificate. This will list the true value of your items, as well as precise detail of all the single parts that make up the pieces. This paper will also have the purpose and function of the valuation listed at the top. It will provide you with a legally binding document for relevant bodies to adhere to.

How long will it take and how do I book an appointment?

Regular valuations can take up to anything from the same day to a week. Things that can make this process quicker or slower can be:

  • The condition of your items.
  • The jobs queue ahead of your valuation.
  • The detail of the items.
  • The quality of the gems or metals used.
  • The size of the items that you bring in to our lab.

Booking an appointment with us is as easy as clicking the button above, or calling us directly. We will also be able to answer any questions or concerns that you may have regarding the whole process. We will also ask you what the purpose of your visit to us is for. This will allow us to tailor our services to provide you with the most benefits possible. We will aim keep you well informed throughout the duration of the valuation.
